Your correct, the 3500 has a stronger axle. But when I looked at it, the max payload for a 2020 3500hd was 4,185lbs. The 2500hd (much smoother ride) had a max payload of 3,563lbs. So with only a 622lb payload difference, I chose the 2500hd. Another reason I chose the 2500hd was resale, its easier to sell a 2500hd than a 3500hd. Both of those numbers were for Single axle, the dually was far greater. A 3500 dually can handle a 6,600lb payload.
