Furnace ductwork - relocating vent

we have been remodeling our bunk room, and we have a dilemma. We want to put a "built-in" cabinet where the heater vent is. (Long story, but it really will work better there.). We have considered just blocking that heater vent, but we are unsure of the safety of that decision. We haven't used the heater much, but there is always the possibility of us needing it. We worry that blocking it might build up too much heat under the floor??

Another idea is to reroute that duct. Could we just cut another hole in the floor and add a vent along the duct route? Is it any more complicated than that?
