I did use a Marshall 30 psi regulator when I replaced mine. But that was a number of years ago and I don't remember the model number.
As far as the length specified by NFPA, I know from my experience on the committees (not that particular committee) that they try not to leave anything to interpretation. They could have said "a length appropriate to not allow any significant accumulation of condensed propane in the line" and everyone could say "Oh that would be about 30 ft". So they chose what they consider the limits they are willing to put in writing and feel it is a safe measure.
