I carry a heat gun that why I can put the beam in different areas of the tire, wheel drum area to find where the hot spot is. I would assume if you did that and put the beam on the bearing area and outer part of the drum you could have a better idea where the heat was coming from. I agree it was most likely a stuck brake but I would check the bearings to see if the heat baked anything.
