There are many reasons to inspect the roof occasionally and this weekend while staying outside of Columbus, OH verified that to me. I did not intend to do it, but the Travler was giving me difficulties and up on the roof I went to see if it was anything obvious. Nothing wrong with the Travler but I did find this:
In addition, the front mushroom attic vent had been ripped out as well and the rubber roof around it was torn. Fortunately, we were near a Camping World so a quick stop was planned to get some trusty Eternabond tape. So of course, they did not have it but rather now carry something called Sticknbond roof repair tape. Not having a choice, got it and put it to use on the front seam and as a temporary repair surrounding the attic vent sans mushroom cap. The product seems to be the same so hopefully it will hold (guaranteed for 25 years). Time will tell. Taped the vent shut after repairing the roof. The tape went on easily and I did the entire roof seam across the front of the rig after cleaning everything up with Lacquer Thinner, so that problem is averted as seen here:
Ordered a new mushroom attic vent and lap sealant to complete the repairs when time becomes available. Will have to cut the entire vent out and replace since whatever happened not only took the cap off, but broke the internal attachment for the cap. Why should we inspect the roof? Simply because problems cannot be seen and the results over time could be devastating, glad I found it when I did. And with regards to the Travler problems, it was stuck in search mode (wide open area) and would not lock on to even one satellite. I reset the interface box, reset the SWM module, and one of the resets seemed to be the remedy. My guess would be the interface box.
