Neither would I be comfortable with that. But, a qualified electrician told me that most likely the screw tip hit the back of the metal box encasing the breakers, and at that point, grounded instantly. Since it was out of the circuit, the breaker tripped. It is doubtful that the screw went through romex from my understanding. But your point is a good one. When I finish this trip, I may tear into the wall - depending on how much else may go wrong. So far, so good !
