I've looked at ours to try doing the same thing, but haven't figured out how yet. There seems to be a stop that keeps the mechanism from going up but just so far. The other part is that your TV may have slipped down a bit. Is the top edge of it just below the Corian/whatever lid? Ours has done this a couple of times (bad roads).
