I think ole Ron had too much egg nog when he wrote that article. The check valve is on the hot outlet. If you have to winterize replace it with a good one; if not, I think you can chunk it.

I have always wanted to check the pressure on the Mountaineer city water plumbing when the water heater T&P valve is weeping. I know when you open the faucet, there is a pressure burst. The RV system is a closed system (due to city water inlet check valve), and I believe all the water lines are at the pressure the P&T valve relieves at. A check valve on the cold inlet might be a good idea. Of course, the hot side plumbing will still see the increased pressure. JMHO
