As long as a dealer's service dept has all the work it can handle, it makes good business sense to limit the service to customers who bought there. Not necessarily saying it makes it right, but is understandable.

But it does vary by dealer. Good friend bought his Monte within a couple months of when we bought, but at a different dealer. He had to go in for some minor work and mentioned I had bought from a different dealer. His service manager told him to tell me to bring mine to them if I need any work done. Don't know if they were needing the work, or maybe pursuing future sales. Never needed to take mine back for any reason.
