I remember Ozark Country now that you describe it. It is decidedly better than most of the private campgrounds where they sardine you in. However I still think the state park is far better. Granted a little ways out of town (maybe 2 miles) but there is a LOT more room between camp sites there.

We live only about 2-2 1/2 hours from Branson and visit it several times a year. If you like Christmas Lights the Shepard on the Hills will have a drive thru that is fairly nice during the holiday season. Certainly a lot to do there. You might want to look at a day trip to Springfield, MO as well. Bass Pro Shops headquarters and museum worth the trip alone.
