We also have the combo unit. Having a washer/dryer was one of the requirements of the DW when choosing what to buy. Our rig does not have space for separate units.
Loads are fairly small, but you can put in a load, set it to wash and dry, and go about what ever you want to do. Come back later to a clean, dry load of laundry. Sure beats sitting in a laundramat.
