Steps and Awning problems and solutions.

We have had a couple of small problems. One is our folding steps were always very stiff, in spite of several attempts to lubricate them. The other day, one of the pivot point rivits sheared off. It was siezed up so tight that I could only remove it by drilling it out. I replaced the rivit with a flat-headed bolt and locking nut. I also re-lubricated all the pivots. Did you realize that there are 20 pivot points on the steps? Most have 2 or 3 spots that need oil. If you notice any stiffness in your steps, I would urge you to oil them well, because replacing the rivits is not all that easy.

The other problem concerned our awning. It never seemed to operate very smoothly. Our dealer replaced the spring mechanism last fall, but it continued to jam at the little switch lever. We took it back again and the dealer installed another spring mechanism. What I found interesting is that the original and first replacement were a cam type of device, this new one is a ratchet. This one seems to work much better. If any of you are experiencing problems with your awning roll-up/down mechanism, I would see if you can get it changed to the ratchet type.
