I believe I remember the rep from the converter manufacturer at the 2014 Goshen rally saying the AGM batteries charge fine as is, but the gel type batteries need a modified charger, which they can do with the same charger with a change, but do not remember what that was. We've been using two deep cycle RV/Marine maintenance free type batteries, and have occasionally boondocked with no problem. You just have to make sure you don't discharge them too far.
