We use pieces of black foam board behind the grates under the stairs. In the summer I replace the floor vents with ones that close (Lowes). The vents have insulation pillows in them and my skylight in the bathroom is dark tinted. We have slide toppers to keep the sun off the slide roofs and window awnings on windows we don't have covers on. We spend the summer in central Kansas and winters in the west so we deal with high heat all the time so we go all out.
