Guess the lesson is lock the tray. Mine has two locks, and I always double check to make sure it is locked before travel. The tray is heavy and will certainly cause damage if it opens up during travel and slams into the compartment door. Well worth having one however, but one more thing to remember to check. Re the narrow question, I bought mine from Stromberg Carlsen, and while you buy the kit you want by tray slideout length, you build to whatever width you want.
