Steve, gotta say, we have not had this happen, the sink giving off bad smells. First thought that comes to my mind (dangerous territory here), have you ever done the Calgon/water softener down the drains when you travel?? I know, that is supposedly for those non-functioning level indicators, but I have been using, just so we have cleaner tanks. Hmmmm, baffling.
