Helen,

You are correct but if you are not looking to own real property any where if you lived in a state such as us in NJ they are going to get you. Here in the wonderful state of NJ they call it a realty transfer tax and unless you stay in the state regardless of owning property for at least 1 year you will have to pay it. For us it amounts to about $4,000.

Pretty sad but that's what keeps the coffers filled in the state house. We promised the state that we would turn the lights off when we left.
