Rich, when we both needed new laptops a couple of months ago I researched to see what antivirus I would want to use when the free trial ones run out. I found a number of tests and reviews that said, believe it or not, Microsft Security Essentials with the update to Windows Firewall works as well as any and better than most. And it's free. I know it's available for Windows 7 but am not sure about other operating systems. It also protects against malware/spyware but I also have some other free software for that, that SteveS recommended to me.
