It saves the manufacturers money by using the same parts as much as possible.
As far as why people buy 3/4 vs 1 ton, I can only answer that for my case. I didn’t have a need for a 1 ton when I bought mine. I was pulling a tt that would have been towable by a half ton. 4 years later here I am in 5er. Before putting the added spring in the truck the only problem I had was my truck was nose high. Never bottomed out in the rear. I could have just put airbags on and leveled it up but, chose to do this. While not technically legal it gives me more capacity and in my opinion is much safer. So many out there don’t even think of going this far or running their rig across the scales.
