Unless they have changed the switch wiring, I believe it does not turn off the front jacks (and possibly the slides - not sure). The purpose of the battery switch is to eliminate the small current draws that can drain the battery over time. For instance, most people don't realize that the propane detector is "on" all the time, so if your unit is sitting (say in storage) for an extended time, the draw can drain the battery. If there are other systems that have draws that are being left on, then the switch is not serving it's intended purpose.
