The furnace worked after disconnecting and reconnecting the cylinders because the valves were opened too fast and set the excess flow restrictor valves inside the plastic nuts at the ends of the pigtails. You will still get gas flow, enough for the stove and water heater to work but not the furnace. Whenever you install a filled cylinder, open the valve very slowly and you not have any problem.
