I only used silicone behind the rails. The rails are under the gutter so I doubt anything will be able to get in there.

There is no difference in tall vs short arms. the arms are the same for carefree/dometic. Its the mount that is different. I used the tall mounts and have the top of the roll at about 1/8" above the top of the flange. The awning does not touch or rub on the flange as it unrolls/rolls.

With the install of the unfurling stops on the one toper I did the install of the stop that mounts on the coach. The other one rolls up so tight the stop hits the gutter/awning rail so I did not install the bracket on the coach.
