We used a ladder rack for a couple of years. If you attache the rack firmly to the ladder and the bikes firmly to the rack you can get away with it. We did with no problems. However I was not happy with that arrangement and had the MOr Ryde build me a bike rack, same rack that Phil had installed.
Tfthorp.... That sound like what Mor Ryde did. They also extended the hitch out far enough so that the handlebars of the bike clear the rear of the camper.
