padredw - Have you tried Composure for your dog? Our vet recommended it. Our Golden is very much afraid of thunder and heavy rain, but the Thundershirt plus Composure works very well in calming her. When I see a storm approaching, I put her Thundershirt on her and give her a "chill pill" before the storm arrives.
She does not pant when traveling, but does not rest well either. Planning to try the Composure on our next long trip.
