I insisted on them when I ordered the unit over six years ago and would do the same again. They've held up well and only get cleaned when washing the roof a couple of times each year. The biggest advantage I've seen is that they prevent pine needles, leaves, moisture, etc. from being pulled inside when retracting the slides.
