I was mad at my dealer about 3 weeks ago because they did not have the correct recall kit for my steps. But in a follow up e-mail reference my emergency window latch finally getting replaced, I learned the following from a Federal Safety Inspector reference these step recalls:

"With regards to the steps, don’t blame the dealer. It turned out that Hickory Springs, the manufacturer of the steps, used a locking nut that was not produced correctly. Hickory Springs caught it but several thousand went out and used. They will now have to redo the recall by having manufacturers to re-notify owners to have their steps inspected again and the defective hardware replaced. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of a recall where the remedy kit was defective to begin with."

So I guess I am actually one of the lucking ones that didn't get my step recall kit installed right away. To everyone that rushed right to their dealers and got the recall repair kit installed, get ready for ROUND #2.
