I have toppers on all the slides. Two of them extend out further to make shade for the living room and dining room. Main awning yes pull it in, in a strong wind. My slides have stayed out in winds strong enough to snap flag poles and make your camp chair disappear. Like Builder Bob said, don't stand near them, if it has rained, you will get a nice shower.
