If you wait until your factory warranty expires most charge you more. Therefore you want to purchase it before it expires. Like Bingo said you are only getting 6 years coverage but will pay for 7. My unit was about 4 months old when I purchased the warranty and about 4 months ago it paid for itself. It is going to pay back again because out Dometic refrigerator just quit.
