We stayed at the Fort Lincoln State Park near Bismark (actually Mandan). We enjoyed visiting the Lewis and Clark sites nearby. Their site for the first winter is just north of Bismark.
We stayed in town for our visit to T. Roosevelt South Unit. Not a particularly good campground but it was just a place to stay overnight. We drove through the park in the afternoon.
Our route was opposite to yours. We came up from the Black Hills to N.Dakota and went straight across to the east, exiting at Fargo.
