Yes and you get a notice but.. You can configure your account to not send these or send them once a day, etc.
These are called thread subscriptions and you can change these settings in your user settings (user cp). There is a link on the upper nav bar but here's the direct link:

Look for the section called edit options. Be sure to scroll down and hit save after you make changes. This changes any subscriptions set up after the changes you make.
You can also delete existing subscription in this same area.
