You should have not problems with a Class A since it is commercial license. I believe the statutes say that A,B, and C can drive anything a Class D can.
Who knows what law they are going to pass next or what enforcement they will use. The change in this law was not publicized. When I last registered my truck nothing was said about the new law. My registration does not have a statement that Class D is required.
One thing for sure is that Law Enforcement agencies are really confused. Oh, DOT cannot tell the FHP what to do.
