Connect Inverter to Truck

I have a 2011 Ford F-250 Diesel. It has two (2) batteries. I want to connect a 2000W or 3000W inverter to the truck but do not want it install permanently or hardwired. The inverter would be used primarily for emergencies to power tools or a small air compressor. Does anyone have any information or insight on how this can be done or if it can be done safely. For example, what gauge wire should be used, should an in-line fuse box be place in the positive line, if so, what amperage, can battery clamps similar to jumper cables clamps be used to connect to the battery(ies), to which battery is the inverter connected or both, etc.? I just want to see if this can be done safely and, if it can, the process to do it?
