the street he's concerned about is Southcross coming in from I'37.
We came in from the west too and Southcross was not a concern. We got off I-10 at x 573 south a block or two and then left (east) on Mitchell to Roosevelt. Right on Roosevelt and south a mile or two. Park was on the right. Easy in and out. We left the same way even though going Southcross to I37 would have been quicker (we where going to head east on I10). the hump on southcross is a big one over the tracks.
And I didn't think there was a problem with the neighborhood at all. There was a bit of commercial stuff nearby, but we spoke to a cop while downtown and he told us it was safe and quiet in that area.
