I towed with a 2005 2500 long bed 4:10 gears and a 6.0 gas and
it worked really hard going over the Cascade Mts to Bend Oregon. The
transmission also ran hot even with synthetic fluid. Gas mileage was about 8 to 9 towing and 15 on the highway. This is towing the smallest Montana made, the 2880RL. The pin weight was fine but over on the combined weight. Defintely go with the 350 or 3500 truck and diesel, the resale will probably be better and you won't be lacking for power.
