I love South Dakota. I( have been there twice. Beautiful country. There are many things to do there, even explore some caves. Make your wife happy and get some Black Hills Gold. LOL
Mount Rushmore is cool. You have to go at night. They light it up. The ranger has a introduction before they turn on the lights. Little Big Horn is also there. It's privetly owned so the fee is more.
If you go to Michigan than Mackinaw Island is a must see. Beautiful country in the summer. They sell chocolate there LOL. Dont bother to go inside the fancy hotel there. Big waste of money. We did take a ride on a horse drawn carnage while on the island. You have to ride a ferry to the island no cars allowed just horses. LOL
Dearborn Michigan is a cool place. Check out the Henry Ford Museum. It was way more than a bunch of cars, but they have those also LOL. You could also take a tour of the Ford factory where they build the F150 That was cool also.
