Used Steel wool (0000), Single edge razor blades on glass but have had good luck using BonAmi. I just apply to a damp sponge and rub the windows. Been using it on auto windows for years with no problems. the glass even cleans up easier the next time I wash them. Most markets carry the stuff and it's multi purpose.
