Your comments are a little ambiguous about the plastic. I think everyone is agreeing that the steel wool 0000 will work great on steel, chrome, glass (very solid surfaces), but can anyone comment for sure about plastic lense covers for headlamps or headlights?
My daughter's car has this problem and we need to fix it since one of her headlights is duller because of it. We'd like to return the lenses back to the clear luster and need a good solution.
Someone mentioned newspaper, but it might not be enough.
