The choice and peace of mind is up to you. If your careful and are always paying attention then great. I have a short box Sliverado with a pullrite slider. I like it because when I am tired and not on my A game it gives me some safety. I have a tight turn to line my HC up to put in my building. Also if I had known in 2007 what I know now I would have probably got the long box. Just didn't want to have a crew cab that was a mile long. So I ended up with a 5er a mile long.
