The market has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. If you drove one brand for 5 years and traded it in on another brand you might be given to think "wow, look what I was missing", but no, they have ALL improved, with each generation.
As to the Cummins being "the only true diesel"...what rubbish. All three of the current offerings will give at least 300,000 miles of service, and pull whatever you put behind it. All are closely matched in horsepower and torque.
