This is probably too late, but we were there (San Antonio) during spring break and stayed at KOA, which fine. We took the city bus that stopped in front of campground downtown 3 days in a row instead of driving and parking. 20 minute ride for 1.10 one way. passed through some bad neighborhoods so wouldn't recommend taking it late at night. Once you get downtown you can transfer and take tolleys to get to all the sites.
