The GM indash Nav systems does give you the WOW factor, and we did really look at the indash. We have used the Garmin portable for several years and have had no issues, we just plug it up to the computer and update every two years. My issue with the indash systems was if it quits working I can imagine the cost factor after warranty. We also have a indash on the Freightliner but its a Garmin system and since I bought the FL preowned I didn't have a choice. But I really think I will keep the portable. I really like the Garmin systems, keep in mind nothing is perfect. But the cost difference is the factor also, at the time I ordered the 2008 Chevy the indash was I think about $1,800 and the Garmin was $600.00 and can be used between all vehicles.
