I got a class A non commercial in 2010 because I was concerned about rowing a trailer that weighed over 15,000 lbs. My trailer at the time was 10,000 lbs. I simply took the written test and was issued a license. Only requirement was a yearly physical. Anyway lost my wallet and license in August of 2017. Went into the DMV and they would only issue me a class C because 2 year lapse without a physical. I now tow a 12,000 lb montana. I believe I am legal. My insurance company State Farm never asked anything about a license for all they know I don't have any.
