You can point the remote at the ceiling and bounce the ir signal down to the sensor on the tv. The jack screw has a metal tube installed on it at the top.shortening that will allow the tv to raise up more when the lift is activated. I also took the solid surface top off the top of the TV lift and used piano hinges to mount it to the top back of the entertainment counter top. My lift now sounds much happier not having to lift that weight as well. The hinge mounts to the bottom of the top "lid" and other side of hinge mounts onto aluminum angle material that gets mounted on the underside of the counterparts in the back. I also put rubber gasket material on the underside of the top lid to allow it to be level when I close it.
