Never lost one or heard of anyone losing one.
But in the storage facility where I keep the 5er, I do use a short chain and wrap it snuggly around the cord and ladder and put a lock on it. Of course someone could cut the chain or lock, but at least they can't just casually walk up and take it. The facility seems pretty secure and the attendant routinely cruises around in a golf cart, so I don't worry about it too much.
