Short bed without a slider have to constantly be aware.Every trip is different terrain and circumstances.Its that one time unusual situation and bang!There goes a rear window or cab.
I bought a 3500 long bed and I installed a B&W Companion and never have to worry about the unexpected.
Better safe then sorry.
