Jerry, it seems every model is different in terms of internal memory, whether it has addon external memory, etc. Mine is an older model, a StreetPilot 2720. It has tons of memory. It also has all the rest areas already their with their own icons. I am not sure what settings your model has but you might check to see if you need to turn on that icon. Or if you can set it to show the icons at lower zoom settings. That's what I did on mine.

Also, mine has a campground icon builtin, also. Changing the settings may display that at lower zoom levels for you. I'm assuming all Garmins have pretty much the same icons for POI locations.

I uploaded low clearance locations along with a stop sign (my choice) icon for those locations. I forgot how I did it. I also set it with an alarm to beep at me when within 2 miles of a low clearance location.

Using mine as an example, I set Settings/Map/Map Detail to Most.
Also, I set the following to custom settings with everything else set to "Auto."
Under Settings/Map:
Custom POIs to 12 miles.
Large Cities to 20 miles.
Medium Cities to 20 miles
Small Cities to 20 miles
Small Towns to 20 miles

Exits (you might want to set this one to maybe 12 miles), Track Log, Railroads, Streets, Favorites, Points of Interest, Rivers, Lakes, Parks, and Other Geograpic Areas are all set to Auto.

That's just what works for me. I think you'll find the Garmin very user friendly, fast responding, and very intelligent in knowing when to do what. At least, mine is.

The Find on yours is likely different than mine, too. Rest areas on mine are under Find/Streets & Cities/Exit/Rest Area. Then, if I select one or more of those rest area results to look at details, I can quickly get back to them with Find/Recent Finds.

Since we have vastly different models, none of this may be of any help.
