When performing this you must be ON THE BALL the whole time. Do not wonder off or get distracted at any time while doing this. If you do SHUT OFF THE WATER. I don't think you had that much pressure build up because it was venting to the outside as you had a bad or weak hose. If a few years old the sun rots or deteriorates them[sewer hose].
