I did this mod to our 2012 last year.
Lexan is more cost but is a better choice.
i got it at Lowes. they cut to my specified size(s) which for me was the rectangle of the lower section and the general rectangle (hight and width) of the upper section. The radius of the upper section corners is approximately the size of a 1 gallon paint can lid. i used one to trace a curve and then cut it with a dremel tool bit (go slow enough so as not to melt the plastic)
We left the screens in place and put the lexan in the inside groove and used velcro at the cross bars to hold in place. top section just held at bottom.
Bottom section held at top and bottom. The top section is a tight fit and we generally leave that in place. The bottom section is easy to remove and store, so we remove that one when fresh air is desired.
Ours is clear but i can see where smoked would look nice. We did'nt do the mid section.
There is so much more light. Very worth doing.
