There's something else going on. I had terrible luck with a Yakima bike rack similar to the Swagman mentioned above. It was not the rack. The reciever has a lot of spring in it. Lucky I still have a rear window.
I do not have shocks. I'm thinking the 5er gets bouncing and that whips the rack and bikes terribly. I don't know for sure about that but the Yakima bike rack is very rugged and works great on the front of my truck so there's sometning about the 5er and receiver.
