The biggest advantage we found is that the l-shaped countertop isolates the kitchen into it's own space. Wife prefers not having traffic in the kitchen during meal preparation, clean-up etc and the counter provides separation for the room. The counter is an added bonus when preparing large meals, desserts, etc, since it provides so much usable space. We never regretted the decision to have this floorplan.
